Next to Normal

Client: Delfont Mackintosh Theatres

Project Overview: "Next to Normal" Promotional Materials, Wyndham's Theatre.

For this key West End show, I needed to devise a clear visual campaign that conveyed the heart of the critically acclaimed musical "Next to Normal." The project encompassed various formats, including:

1. 4-Sheet Poster: Designed an eye-catching poster with a colorful, abstract image of the human mind, contrasted with a dark outline to reflect the themes of mental health and family relationships in the show.

2. Web Banners: Updated the main visual elements for online, ensuring the design was going to be strong at both size variations while maintaining readability of critical information.

3. Motorway Billboard: Designed a bold attention-grabbing visual communication for large-format display, ensuring maximum readability and visibility to the passing motorists.

Key design elements:

- Vibrant colors comprised essentially of purples and pinks -

- Mixing musical themes into the abstract "mind" picture.

- Clear typography highlighting the show's title and critical acclaim

- Consistent branding across all formats

The campaign was effective in communicating the serious themes of the show, as well as looking good. It took an identical design to various places - from small, scattered web ads to big billboards. This gave Delfont Mackintosh Theatres a robust and indelible visual style for "Next to Normal." This project represents an example of my work in cohesive multi-format design campaigns for high-profile theatrical productions and the effective translation of complex themes into compelling visual narratives.
